Cité des civilisations du vin
Located in the city of Bordeaux on the banks of the Garonne River, Cité des civilisations du vin is a cultural and informational center devoted to wine’s universal and living heritage designed for the general public. The Cité will undoubtedly become a cultural, recreational and architectural emblem of the Bordeaux destination.
This impressive contemporary architectural building has a total surface area of 143,700 ft² spread across 10 floors. The building features a 180-foot tower, a 115-foot viewing gallery, and a splendid panoramic restaurant on the 7th floor.
It is the world’s largest center dedicated to the cultural dimensions of wine and offers an array of experiences. The main exhibit is the 32,300 ft² permanent tour offering an immersive, interactive, multi-sensory experience with 20 themed modules incorporating over 120 brand-new audio-visual creations. Visitors will also enjoy a rich and diverse program of cultural events, two international exhibitions each year, and a cultural exhibition celebrating a specific winemaking country. In addition, there is a 250-seat auditorium where screening of films, documentaries, live shows, themed literary gatherings, conferences and academic colloquia will take place all year long.
Cité des civilisations du vin is an incredible and lively experience, with 3 tasting workshops, a wine bar, a snack bar with an outdoor patio, a reading room, an international wine boutique and a gift shop.
What’s new in 2016?
The Cité opened on June 1, 2016 and three different types of packages are offered to visitors:
The Discovery Visit includes an access to the permanent tour with a personal digital guide available in eight languages, a free visit of the temporary exhibitions and to end on a high note, a glass of wine from Bordeaux and worldwide origins served on the viewing platform at the very top of the tower of the Cité.
The Exploration Visit package includes everything from the discovery visit as well as access to one of the four tasting workshops of the visitor’s choice: “The Keys to Tasting” (an educational and friendly introduction to tasting), “The Grand Tasting Experience”, “Wines and Gastronomy” (a tasting and food/wine pairing workshop) or the “Multisensory Experience” (a unique tasting experience using all of the senses within spectacular surroundings).
The Immersion Visit package offers a wonderful lunch in the panoramic restaurant on the 7th floor to the exploration visit.
